WEEK 1
Preliminary Meeting--One Day
Day One: Meeting with All Staff
Presentation – Collaborative Art and Adult Learning Options (2 hour minimum)
Meeting with Management Staff
- Introduction of Concepts
- Overview of Collaborative Art Process
- Site Tour
- Overview of Adult Learning Options
- Brainstorming – specific to building and program needs
- Identification of resources: staff, space, financial
- Identification of barriers: union issues, contract issues, staff atitudes, finances, space
Day Two-Five:
Collaborative Art Process
- Hands-on demonstrations of Collaborative Art Process
- Evaluate existing resources (studio space, staff, materials)
- Begin making art
- Reflective meeting at the end of each day
Adult Learning Options
- Hands-on demonstrations of Adult Learning Options
- Observe staff members and provide feedback
- Evaluate existing resources (staff, materials, equipment)
- Brainstorm activity ideas
- Develop Master Schedules
- Begin development of activities specific to each group/area
- Explore the organizations “work culture”
- Reflective meeting at the end of each day
Outcomes for Week 1:
- Staff members and persons receiving services will have a basic understanding of Collaborative Art
and Adult Learning Options
- People (staff members, individuals) and things (art studio, activity spaces) will be in the right places
- Management and Direct Care Staff will have buy-in and investment into the project
WEEK 2
Four or Five Consecutive Days
Collaborative Art
- One-week residency with Professional
Working Artist Patty Mitchell
- Exploring and building art through the
talents/interests of the individuals
- Staff learns in a hands on environment
how to facilitate collaborative art
projects
- Artwork is designed
be installed on site or
in the community
- Reflective meeting at

Adult Learning Options
- Work one-on-one with staff members assigned to project
- Continue brainstorming activity ideas
- Continue activity observations and provide feedback
- Complete Master Schedules
- Develop activities specific to each group/area
- Introduce Staff and Participant Evaluations
- Evaluate work culture and payment practices
- Reflective meeting at the end of each day
Outcomes for Week 2:
- One month of planned activities for each Adult Learning Options
area
- Re-evaluation of work process and payment practices with suggestions
for enhancement.
- Completed working art studio with identified resources for future
projects
- Basic understanding of wage payment practices for artists
Final Take-Aways:
- Celebration of successes - with staff and individuals
- Final Powerpoint Report including Process and Outcomes
- Comments from staff and participants
- Photographic summary
